Hi, my name is Sally, and I’ve been addicted to sugar for as long as I can remember. I’ve tried every diet under the sun—many helped me lose weight temporarily, but I was always hungry, and the weight always came back. For years I followed Keto, but everything changed when I was hit with severe sciatica and couldn’t walk for six weeks. That led to two years of intense pain and heavy medication (gabapentin, ibuprofen, and Percocet). After that ordeal, I began experiencing a cascade of health issues including Hashimoto’s, hypokalemia, neuropathy, fatty liver, and more.
For two years, my potassium levels were dangerously low, and I was prescribed 7,500 mg of potassium daily. No one seemed to dig into why it was happening—they just treated the symptoms. I was told I’d have Hashimoto’s and hypokalemia for life, and that fasting wasn’t safe with thyroid or potassium issues. But when I researched, listened to experts, and tuned into my own body, I began to take a different approach. I found that fasting and a carnivore-based diet helped me feel better than I had in years.
Through my own journey—and learning from voices like Dr. Chaffee, Dr. Berry, Dr. Cywes, Jimmy Moore, and Dr. Jason Fung—I made the decision to be my own advocate. I believed sugar was the root of my chronic inflammation and health decline. When I removed it, everything began to shift.
My motivation came from my micro-preemie granddaughter, Ruby Grace, who was born under 1 lb and survived against all odds. At my lowest point—311 lbs, severely edemic, barely breathing, hair falling out—I knew I had to fight for my life the way she had fought for hers. That moment changed everything.
I started ketovore on February 1, 2021, and lost 60 lbs by October. But I slipped over the holidays, giving sugar another chance—and quickly regained 28 lbs in water weight and inflammation. That taught me I could never go back. Like an alcoholic, I realized I could never moderate sugar. On Jan 1, 2022, I quit for good, cold turkey. That decision saved my life.
Since then, I’ve followed a strict carnivore lifestyle with no sweeteners at all. As my physical health improved, emotional wounds I had buried with sugar began to rise. It’s been a process of letting go, grieving, and healing—not just my body, but my heart and mind. That’s why I became an Emotional Eating & Sugar Addiction Coach—not to replace therapy or medical advice, but to walk beside others through the darkness. I’m not a doctor or therapist, but I’ve lived it, and I’m here to support you.
